Pitstopboss Manager Game Update

By pitstopboss on June 17, 2010

Welcome to the latest update for Pitstopboss!

After some analysis of the recent server overload and lag issues (mainly due to around 5,000 new players all banging on the server door at once), we’ve had to do some optimising of game pages and the backend
as well as make some server configuration changes.

Our server was operating somewhat how Giancarlo Fisichella was like driving a Ferrari.
We’ve replaced the Fisichella bits with some Alonso-grade code and it’s working at a good pace now.
Earlier than the planned Ferrari Valencia update, we’re already updating some of the game to ensure a fast response time for the game pages and less load on the server.

Some of the visible changes are noted in the update list below, whereas most of the work has been behind the scenes in the engine department.

Update List:

-    Added a new panel to show info about your team and moved credits and other details into the panel
-    Made adjustments to team page which sees the race schedule move to it’s own page
(you do also get a nice flag icon, so you can jump to it in one click)
-    Made it a bit clearer who your mentor is and easier to jump into an academy.
-    Updated some pages with more caching for speed.
-    Added a bonus of 15% bonus credits when supporters make a credit purchase.
-    Added some new awards for long-term members, giving credit bonuses based on time playing
(from 1 to 3 years at 10% – 30%.)

We have plans to get the race test ramped up as soon as these current updates are up and running well.
We will also be releasing some brand new tracks in the near future as well.

Happy racing!

Improve the value and stats of your team by making improvements. Simply select what areas you want to improve and the work happens automatically overnight.

The more improvement slots dedicated to one improvement, the faster the stat will rise. For example if all four slots are being used for Engine, this will improve twice as quickly as when two slots are dedicated to this improvement.

The effect of improvements will not be immediate so do not expect stats to rise daily. You can see how many development points are needed for the next stat increase by hovering your cursor over the stat in question.

Buying a CTO can help speed up improvements. When buying a CTO, look at the “improvements time” stat to see how much.

Improvements do not only work on your car, some also work for the people in your team. For example, choosing ‘engine’ will improve both your car engine stats and your AND driver’s speed stats. Another example is: Choosing ‘pit

Saving your setups is a good way to get a head start the next time you race at that track.

When you have a setup you’d like to reuse, on the monitor page of the competition, scroll down to ‘setup management’.

Give the setup a name and save it.
When you want to reuse it go to the same page, select it and load it.

Bear in mind that it won’t give you the same setup as you had last time, there are many variables, but it’s a good starting point.

You can save 40 setups if you’re not a Supporter and 400 if you are.

Remember to use your first few laps to get suggestions, don’t worry about doing fast laps at first, you want to get your % setup as high as possible first. Use approx 16 laps to get the most hints possible in this part of the session.

In order to do this put your pace down to 0 or just above. Also make sure you set it to do the maximum set of laps per run. This way you’ll get more suggestions when each run is finished.

Then, when you do want to do the fast laps (say, the last two runs) put up your driver pace to around 100 (above this is possible, but it’s more risky in terms of driver errors). Also reduce your laps. The fewer laps, the less fuel you carry and the faster you go, but you’ll need to heat up the tyres as well so you have to find a balance.

Look at your tyre page and use the Compount Temperture Charts at the bottom of the page to see how long they take to heat up to 100%.

Using this info, go on your fastest lap, making sure you’re using the best compound (hard, medium etc.) for the conditions.

Pitstopboss Manager Game Update

By pitstopboss on May 11, 2010

After a brief absence, there is more activity in the garage!… here are some updates.

Let’s hope they work as well as the Red Bull updates did in Barcelona!

- Fixed a bug in the damage routine that selected higher grade parts more often when any damage occured.
– Adjusted tyre wear rates for longer runs past 20 laps (mainly for the race code).
– Adjusted slightly the tyre temps of Goodones.
– Fixed a bug that caused problems with upgrades if you lost your CTO (you would be stuck, unable to run).
– Fixed some contract extension exploit bugs.
– Fixed a bug that now allows you to leave an Alliance at any time.
– Added (and Fixed an issue with) BoaCompra payment systems that allows Boleto Bancario and other methods of payment.
– Fixed a caching bug with the end of round scores.
– Fixed a bug with the track information hints, so that they are more accurate and based on the weather.
– Many people are not correctly voting, so we are monitoring the situation and may restrict some of the sites, unfortunately.
– There are some people (and maybe bots) that are hammering the server with page refreshes, which may cause issues, so we are monitoring this and there may be some slight restrictions for those people while we work on a solution .

There are several ways to get credits for free, although they can also be bought if you choose (see the Buy Credits page for details). Here’s a quick rundown of how you can get free credits with a minimum of fuss.

- Voting. You can see links to vote either at the top of each page or on the page Credits > Vote for Credits. Votes give varying amounts of credits and by getting us near the top of the vote lists we attract more new managers to the game. Please take the time to vote for PSB once you’ve clicked on the links.

- Referrals. By getting people to join via your referral link, whether it be something you’ve sent by email, a forum post/signature or even via a banner on your website, you bring new blood to the game and, once they reach level two, earn yourself 10,000 credits into the bargain. You can see your individual referral link at Credits > Referrals.

- Competitions. Some competitions have credit prizes. Read their Information tab under Championship Credits Prize Allocation to check. You also normally get a 2000 credits bonus for completing 90% of the rounds, regardless of where you finish.

- Selling Items. If you have an item that can be sold make sure that you sell it before you buy a replacement. When you get a new engine for example the old one will disappear and you won’t get any credits for it. So sell before you buy!

You can also earn credits by becoming a Factory or an Academy, but these are for the more advanced users. When you’ve reached a certain level of expertise in the game make sure you explore these options.

There are many competition types to suit all needs and tastes.

Firstly you need to consider the conditions, restrictions and rewards any competition has, for which you need to look at the Information tab.

Here you can see if there are restrictions on what kind of engine, chassis or tyres can be used, and if upgrades are in any way restricted.

You can also see how many points you can win and if there are credits to be won.

The Information tab will also tell you how long each session lasts, how frequent those sessions are and, if there is a fixed time, what time the competition
begins.

It also shows you if there is changeable weather, track rubber changes, retirements and if there are any limits on which managers can join.

In Pitstopboss, the free online F1 manager game, you compete with racing fanatics from all over the world!

Sponsors award bonus credits, liveries and car upgrades upon completion of their tasks.

Tasks include things like …

-complete so many laps in so many rounds
-finish above a certain position so many times
-get so many lockouts (place 1 and 2 in a round)

Always look for the sponsors’ objectives that you think you will be able to complete easily. Don’t go for ones that would be impossible (for example ‘place 2nd or better 3 times in Elite Cups’ will be very difficult).

To access the Sponsors page, look for the Sponsorship tab on your Team page or go to left menu… Team…Sponsorship.

Once the objective has been completed you can cancel it and look for another.

Pitstopboss Manager Game Tips #1

By supportboss on April 28, 2010

Today we are going to discuss bad weather conditions.

When it is raining or the track is wet you will have to change your strategy.

Firstly you will need to ensure that you use the right tyres, the normal hard, medium and soft compounds are useless here.

When it is raining heavily you should use Full Wets. When the track is simply wet or there is light rain you are best to use Intermediates.

Also bear in mind that any saved setups from dry conditions will not be as useful when it is wet, you should save separate setups for when it is dry and when it is wet.

If you read the Bad Weather section of the Help guide you will also see tips on how to alter your setup for such things as tyre pressure and brake balance in relation to the usual Setup Hints on the Track Info page.

Pitstopboss Manager Game Tips #12

By supportboss on April 26, 2010

One of the first things you’ll want to do is to start buying drivers and car parts, here is how it’s done.

Go to Contracts on the Navigation Menu and then choose the item you want to buy.

Let’s say you want a new driver, select Get New Driver.

This will take you to a page with a list of all drivers currently for sale.

Use the dropdown menu to select which driver you want to look at.

Once you have found the driver you want, select the amount of credits you want to bid and then click on Offer Contract.

For some drivers with no bids there’s an option to GET NOW. For others you will have to wait 2 or 3 days for all bids to be made before you discover if you have got the driver.

The process is the same for all team members and car parts.
